What to Expect During Your Exam

During your dental exam, we will thoroughly inspect your teeth, gums, and mouth. This includes checking for signs of decay, gum disease, or other oral health issues. We’ll also discuss your dental history and any concerns you may have, such as sensitivity or pain. A dental exam takes about 30 to 45 minutes. This timeframe ensures we have enough time to perform a detailed evaluation and address your questions.

If necessary, we may recommend an X-ray to get a clearer view of what’s happening beneath the surface of your teeth and gums. Dental X-rays help in diagnosing problems that aren’t visible during a regular exam. They allow us to see between and inside the teeth, as well as the jawbone structure, so we can identify issues like impacted teeth, abscesses, and bone loss. Modern digital X-rays are quick, safe, and involve minimal radiation exposure. We only take X-rays when necessary to ensure we have a complete understanding of your oral health.

Our goal is to make this process as comfortable and effective as possible.

How Often You Should Have Dental Exams?

It is generally recommended to have a dental exam every six months. This biannual schedule allows us to monitor your oral health, identify potential issues early, and provide professional cleaning to maintain healthy teeth and gums. If you have specific dental concerns such as a history of gum disease, a higher risk of cavities, or ongoing dental issues, more frequent visits may be necessary. During your appointment, we will assess your oral health and recommend an exam schedule.
